One may have seen this video and other videos made by other youtubers with the predominant use of cuss words by the "Hindi belt" (though I don't like to use this term). I am a bit sceptical of this survey because the surveyors or target people may not consider certain words in their language as cuss words. I have observed the people from TN use cuss words liberally in their regular conversation, especially younger chaps!
In our school WhatsApp group we had a short discussion on this topic and one friend commented that certain districts or area within a state may have about 100% of the people using cuss words. My friend from Bangalore tells me that people who drive a lot in Bangalore may be the largest users of gaalis; understandably so. 😂
Have the relaxed or stand-offish attitude of the Indian censor board towards content on social media influenced the increased use of cuss words in public discourse? I have a suspicion that it may be so. Another dimension that I perceive is that if the parent (generally father) uses cuss words liberally and in the presence of their growing children, there is a greater chance that the children may be predisposed to using them as well. The reverse may not be true, since I have seen my children use them, in my presence, though not very liberally! Well, what about the stand up comedians around in the western world and in India? If you have watched there are two camps of stand up comedians - Praveen Kumar (Tamil) Shraddha Jain (Kannada, Hindi and English), Alexandar Babu (Tamil, not a stand up comedian) on the one hand who do not use any cuss word or any unparliamentary words and Karthik (Tamil), and his ilk on the other who use them quite liberally. There are some lady stand up comedians who are no exception to this. The laughter among the audience who come to watch such shows where the cuss words are used liberally shows where as a country we are.
